Hot Rolling - Advantages and Disadvantages

Advantages of Hot Rolling:

1. There are no residual stresses in the steel.
2. It does not have any defects like other forms of rolling. 
3. It also ensures high productivity. 
4. Hot rolling is that it can be used for producing low carbon steels, especially high-strength steels and stainless steels with good mechanical properties.
5. Hot rolled steel is very strong because it has good tensile strength and resistance to fatigue.
6. It can be made into almost any shape or size.
7. It's usually easy to machine, as the grain flow tends to keep the welded area fairly straight.
8. The hot rolling process produces very uniform and consistent tubing that has no weld seam, which improves the strength and thermal performance of the tube.
9. Less heat distortion than other processes.

Disadvantages of Hot Rolling:

1. It is a slow process that requires special equipment and machines to operate.
2. It needs time to produce quality products.
3. Hot rolling is the fact that it is time-consuming, and requires higher energy inputs. 
4. It affects ductility, toughness, and tensile strength.
5. This process also increases internal stresses in the material.
