Kinetic Energy and Potential Energy: In this article we will discuss about the difference between Kinetic energy and Potential Energy. Kinetic energy is in the object or a body only when it is under motion. Potential energy is a kind of energy stored in an object when it is under rest or no motion.

What is Energy?

Energy is the ability to do work. One form of energy can be converted into another form like Potential energy can be converted into Kinetic energy. When an object containing potential energy, it converts into kinetic energy by losing the same amount of potential energy.

The Main Difference between Kinetic Energy & Potential Energy is Explained as follows:

Kinetic energy:

Kinetic energy is in the object or a body only when it is under motion. Without any motion of an object, it does not contain kinetic energy. Kinetic energy can be transfer from one object to another or from one body to another body. The Kinetic energy stored in an object depends upon the velocity or speed etc. this type of energy is measured in Joules.
Kinetic Energy= 1/2 MV2.

Potential energy:

Potential energy is a kind of energy stored in an object when it is under rest or no motion. The potential energy of an object depends upon its weight or mass or gravitational force acting on it. Potential energy cannot transfer its energy from one object to another object. Potential energy changes with respect to gravitational force. An object has more potential energy when it placed on higher than the lower object. Potential energy is measured in Joules.

Units of Kinetic energy and potential energy:

Both Kinetic Energy and Potential Energy is measured in joules.
