Alloy Steel and Different types of Alloy Steel
Alloy Steel and Different types of Alloy Steel:
Alloy Steel:
Alloy Steel: Alloy Steel is made by combining carbon steel with one or more alloying elements by adding different combinations of proportions of elements which develops different characteristics and properties. By manipulating the percentage of different alloy elements in steel to achieve better properties.Different types of alloy steels are divided with respect to the amount of the alloying elements present in the steel.
Different types of alloy steels:
Low Alloy Steel:
In Low alloy steels, the percentage of different elements present in the steel is less than 5-8%.Medium Alloy Steel:
In Medium Alloy Steels, the percentage of different elements present in the steel is less than 10%.High Alloy Steel:
In High Alloy Steels, the percentage of different elements present in the steel is greater than 10%.High alloy steel contains chromium which increases high resistance to corrosion and this steel has high resistance to temperature.
This type of steel is used for cutting tools due to high-temperature resistance, Hardness, corrosion resistance.
This type of steels is used in turbine blades, power plant boilers, etc.
Alloy steels are also divided into stainless steel and tool steels.
Stainless Steel:
This is high strength and corrosion resistance steel than any other type of steel. used in high pressure, temperature, applications.Tool Steel:
This type of steel is used in cutting tool materials, drilling, etc.Composition of alloy steel:
Depending upon the alloying elements composition they are classified. To obtain different types of properties like strength, hardness, Toughness, temperature resistance, corrosion resistance, shock resistance, stain resistance, etc. we can manipulate the percentage of different alloy elements like Chromium, Manganese, Nickle, Tungsten, Vanadium, Cobalt, Molybdenum, etc.
Especially to increase the strength, hardness Vanadium is used.
Alloy steels have different structures like Austenite, Martensite, etc.
