The difference between the open cycle gas turbine plant and closed cycle gas turbine plant.The main difference between the open cycle and closed cycle gas turbine is in Open cycle working fluid is continuously replaced whereas fluid is used again & again in a closed cycle gas turbine.The more details about comparison between Open Cycle & Closed cycle gas turbine is explained as follows.

Open cycle gas turbine:

  • In this turbine the gases exhausted into the atmosphere from the turbine itself.
  • It has less thermal efficiency than closed type.
  • There is a loss occur in working fluid as the cycle is open.
  • It has lower part load efficiency.
  • Low cost of maintenance.
  • It has less mass of power plant.
  • It is easy to control the load.
  • This open cycle is operated at lower pressures.
  • This is most suited for moving vehicles.


Closed cycle gas turbine:

  • In this type of cycle the gases from the turbine enters into the cooling chamber and used again.
  • It has more thermal efficiency.
  • There is no losses occur in working fluid.
  • It has higher part load efficiency.
  • It has high-cost efficiency.
  • It has the high mass of power plant.
  • It is difficult to control the load.
  • This is operated at higher pressure.
  • This is used for stationary uses.
