Difference between Adhesion and Cohesion?

Adhesion force is the energy that allows a liquid to stick to something. When you pour milk into a glass, for example, it will not be able to move because of adhesion force.

Adhesion force is the sum of forces acting on a surface, which can be used to determine whether two surfaces are in contact or not. 

Adhesion force is proportional to the product of coefficients of friction and normal stress, known as Friction Coefficient.

Adhesion can be measured by applying pressure to each part of a model and measuring how much force it takes to separate them. A coefficient of adhesion (CA) is calculated by dividing the force required to separate one part by the total weight of all parts.

An adhesion bond is formed due to the mechanical or electrostatic force.

Cohesion force is what holds things together and prevents them from falling apart. Cohesion force that acts between particles that have been compressed into the interstitial spaces. It can also be used to describe how cohesive materials stick together in a solid-state. The cohesion force is proportional to the square root of density and volume fraction of air or other gases contained within a bulk material divided by its volumetric capacity, which in turn is determined by density and compressibility factor (σ).

The strength of cohesion depends on the relative density and temperature of both materials involved in cohesion, as well as whether there are any voids present in either material which can increase the effect of adhesion by allowing water or air into contact with each other.

Cohesion force is the frictional force acting between surfaces due to their adhesion.
