Continuously Variable Transmission (CVT)

Continuously Variable Transmission (CVT):

Continuously Variable Transmission: In this article we will discuss about What is CVT? Continuously variable transmission is also known as variable diameter pulley, the name itself gives an idea in changing in diameter for different speeds. Continuously variable transmission transfer the rotational power of one shaft to another shaft.

CVT consist of two pulleys one is driving pulley and another one is driven pulley and there is a belt which used to transfer the motion. continuously variable transmission is a special design for low power and torque transmission like cars, this is not useful for heavy load vehicles like trucks. This transmission system is a little fuel-saving system than any other, by using this transmission system we can achieve maximum engine power, and there is also a problem at handling a lot of torque in cars. CVT has less efficiency in power transmission when compared to the gearbox. There is a need of planetary gearbox in this transmission to get forward and backward rotation. The gap between the pulleys is adjusted with respect to the speed. but at high speeds, the belt that transmit the power does not handle the stress and gets to failure by causing wear and there is a chance of getting a slip of belt at the time of engagement.
This type of transmission system is not used in almost all formula racing cars due to there disadvantages at high speeds and high power transmission.
