LASER Welding and Advantages of LASER Welding

What is  Laser Welding?

  • Light Amplification by Stimulated Emission of Radiation. This welding is done by producing the high-intensity light beam at a small area on the work-piece to get the weld.
  • This small area is applied by an immense amount of energy on the workpiece.
  • In this lasers, there are different types called solid, liquid, gas.
  • The solid lasers are mostly used for welding.
  • This type of lasers has it has parallel and mirror is used at the surface and its crystal has in cylinder form and having ends flats.
  • When this crystal is subjected to electric discharge, high-intensity white light is obtained which is in flash form and this excites Cr ions and this pumps to high energy levels. By the heat and radiation Cr ions gets to there original level.
  • This is obtained by red fluorescent and this lights gets reflected in the crystal between the mirrors and excites more amount of Cr ions.  The total energy escapes and bursts through a small hole provided by an output of mirror which is in the form of the laser beam by this the collision occurs more in between Cr ions and Red light. this beam forms into a narrow spot by using an optical focusing lens. this energy is converted into heat energy and makes the metal to melt.

Advantages of Laser welding:

  • By this, the material that cannot be welded can be weld.
  • It can weld a small area that which can Unaccessible.
  • The process of welding should not possess electrical conductivity and no requirement of mechanical contact in joining the metals.
  • Contamination of electrodes is eliminated.
  • In this, there is no electrode used by this it eliminates effects of electric current.
  • This improves the quality of welding
  • It can be welded without affecting their properties.
  • In this type of welding, concentrated energy is controlled with high accuracy without any losses.
  • This can weld by not affecting the insulation properties.
