• It is defined as a length over which the parameter to be measured is significant consisting the desired and relevant information.
• It is measured by dividing the data into equal sample lengths in surface roughness.

• In it, the very small sampling length shows only the unrepresentative micro roughness whereas too large sampling length results in distorted waviness of the surface.
