Explain the Rankine Cycle Operation
Rankine Cycle:
- Rankine Cycle is known as the thermodynamic cycle for the steam power plant. In this Cycle, the steam in the turbine is superheated and condensing it in condenser due to removing the limitations which are in the Carnot cycle.
- In this, the actual power cycle is obtained by the theoretical process.
- At evaporation and condensation there is no pressure drop in ideal ranking, and at the expansion and compression it is in isentropic due to the irreversibly and heat interaction with the surroundings.
- In this ideal Ranking cycle fluid used for working is water.
- Water is in the liquid phase at the starting of this cycle and at the time of exist, and in the remaining time, it is in vapor form.
- Water is supplied by the help of pump to the boiler, in this boiler water is heated from liquid phase to steam, and this is used to enter into the turbine to rotate the rotor, the turbine is connected to the generator. after the process completed in the turbine, the steam enters into the condenser to cool the steam. and this steam is existed as water and reused as working fluid.
- There are the different type of components like Boiler, Turbine, Condenser, Pump.
Construction of rankine cycle:
*) Boiler:
It is the main part of the cycle to run the turbine. boiler is used to heat the water and convert in to steam. with the help of pump water enters into boiler and gets to high heat and forms into steam.
*) Turbine:
Turbine is used to rotate the shaft which generates power for further uses.
*) Condenser:
Condenser used to condensate the steam which flows from turbine to condenser. and this condensate steam mix with water for reusing purpose.
*) Pump:
Ranking cycle efficiency = Work done/Heat Absorved.
At 1-2. Isentropic Expansion.
At 2-3. Steam is condensed to Saturated water.
At 3-4. Isentropic Expansion.
At 3-4 Heat is supplied to water to form it into steam.
